As a product of creativity like music and movies knows no bounds, does video games often offer some content deemed inappropriate for those laymen . Content nudity, brutal cruelty, until the controversial plot has become a daily sight, divide the view into two great camps - those who see it as a source of negative energy and positive in the eyes of the beholder. One of the latest research conducted by the Stress Research Institute at Stockholm University , Sweden, concluded that for certain types of games, the negative effects become more apparent. Their experiments proved that games with high severity level would potentially trigger more stress.
In contrast to the belief that the game would reduce the level of stress, this study proves otherwise. Experiments carried out on two groups of aged 13 -15 years : those who played a cruel game for 3 hours (high) or more and those who play under 1 hour (low) . When asked to play one of the most brutal game - Manhunt, both groups showed different reactions. Group showed lower sleep quality were worse, with increasing levels of sadness after playing Manhunt compared to the high group. One equation? Both shows stress and anxiety levels higher. From these results, games with a high level of brutality is considered capable of producing stress and worsen sleep quality gamers psychological exhaustion.
This study proves that games with high levels of brutality potentially produce stress and anxiety, which eventually will lead to poor sleep quality.
Not only that, from the same research as well, players who continue to play games like this also demonstrates the mental and physical responses are more numb to brutality in the real world. How about your own? Are the games are super cruel to make you more difficult to sleep and feeling depressed? Or you are a gamer who already numb to the format like this game?
