ORLANDO, TUESDAY - Ever heard of the internet of everything (IOE)? Yet? Hmm, this is the latest term of Cisco. The point about how everything in this world will be connected.
"Connected to the smart car, resource, health care (health care), smart applications and others," said Dave Evans (Cisco Futurist) in his speech at the Cisco Live! yesterday afternoon (06/24/2013) at the Orange Convention Center, Orlando, Florida, USA. "IOE Internet represents a new era," he said.
Cisco Futurist, Dave Evans
What is the IOE? There are four things covered here, the people (people), process (the process), data and things. Everything is connected in a network. Multiple technology. "There are many definitions of IOE but still everything to bring to the connection," said Evans.
Simply this. Just imagine the technological changes that occurred in the last 20 years and the number of connections that occur. A lot is not it? When smartphones were introduced about 10 years ago, the World Wide Web is still in its infancy stage (1993).
But last year (2012), that number jumps to 1 billion. Currently we have more than 10 billion connected devices. And the number of items connected to the network continues to increase - including from the data, voice, video and smart devices to new types of applications. Then the value in the private sector alone is estimated to exceed U $ 14.4 trillion by 2022.
Consequently not surprising that there is confusion about perbedaanantara Internet of Things (IOT) and Internet of Everything (IOE). The difference is subtle. IOT has penetrated into our daily lives, for example in car sensor, and creating complex systems with analytical and independent one goal.
While the IOE is a combination of technology transition with the convergence of voice, video, mobility, people, process, data and others. This creates a new level of network intelligence, or a network of networks in which there are billions or even trillions of connections. IOE combines intelligence, visibility, and security in a way that will ultimately deliver a value.
"The IOE is the evolution of the IOT. Not merely mengoneksikan everything, but built from IOT framework, "said Evans.
"This is not just a connection but no new abilities that had not existed. Example of visibility, resource supply chain. We can know who you are from existing data and what to do, "said Evans.
And where the role of Cisco? "We will remain as proprietary but the IOE network will be IP-based," said Evans. "Cisco will continue to encourage the cities smart (smart cities of the)," he added.
Evans cited the health care arena which he said would be helped by the IOE. "Now his tools are not speaking to each other, they form silos. Though health care is universal and everyone is definitely required. Necessary tools to bring health care connected. This does not change radically, still following Moore's Law rhythm that changes every 18 months. But in the next few years will be radically changed, "said Evans.
Senior Director, Enterprise Network Cisco Inbar Lasser-Raab
Benefits that can be gleaned from health care, obviously Inbar Lasser Raab (Senior Director, Enterprise Network, Cisco), among others, a doctor who goes to visit inpatients in the room can get information about the patient from the device he was carrying.
"As soon as the doctor entered the room door, the tablet will obtain information about the patient. No need to use paper, making it more efficient. "For the X-ray, doketer can also get advice from the application, as well as to consult with other physicians," said Raab
All of this can happen if there is a network. "Then the doctor will spend a little more time to provide higher quality service to their patients," said Raab.
Only challenge now, Raab said, quoting the survey data in May 2013 in the 19 countries with each respondent a hundred people, the network is not ready.
